Midwest Cuisine

Before tonights dinner, I should start with last nights dinner since I didn't get a chance to blog last night. The main course was a stuffed rigatoni which was pretty yummy, and the star was strawberries with sour cream and brown sugar. Some also rans were cottage cheese, milk, and my lovely andes mints topped it all off.

Tonight we had the midwest fare with a California twist. I had what I think was a skirt steak which was pretty yummy with some delicious herbed, cheesey potatoes. I also had milk (which by the way is pretty weird to be drinking when you're pumping, but delicious all the same.) In addition there were mini oreos, andes mints (yeah), two cottage cheeses, some veggies, and something else which I haven't opened yet - it's a mystery. All in all, yahoo!

Thanks again hubby for the always creative and yummy dinners.

Here fishy, fishy, fishy...

Tonights fare was highlighted by a nice plate of prawns with just the right amount of cocktail sauce, a crudite platter with bleu cheese dressing (which I forgot to use), fruit cocktail, a black cherry soda, and 3 Andes Mints. A very nice dinner indeed.

My husband has been abducted by aliens...

or, Never let your husband sleep in as you don't know what you'll get for dinner that night.

My husband must have been half asleep or abducted by aliens cuz tonight was definitely not one of his finer moments when it comes to dinner. It started off with milk that was curdled into cottage cheese (a horrible thing to have in your mouth), followed by dry tough chicken (not his fault, it was a microwave variety), and topped off with a rotten plum.

Thinking I was going to have to starve for the night, yet afraid to dive into the rest of my lunch I thought I'd give him the benefit of the doubt and go for it. The rest of my lunch/dinner was up to his usual wonderful performance. I had a great spinach salad with sun dried tomatoes, crumbled cheese, etc., fruit cocktail, some nuts, and two (count them, two) Andes Mints. Down to the vending machines for a Dr. Pepper and I was all set.

To Trailer trash or not to trailer trash, that is the question.

I can't believe how many different dinners I have had since returning to work. I seriously don't think I could think up as many dinners as my hubby has. Tonights dinner was no exception. As the main course I had a turkey loaf which is the upscale version of trailer trash meatloaf. Normally I love this delicacy from the freezer section, but tonight I didn't get to eat till really late and alas the turkey loaf was cold. Cold turkey loaf, not so good. A quick zap in the microwave did wonders for this little congealed piece of meat. In addition to this I had a yummy spinach salad - Yeah!!, cottage cheese (I'm one of the few people that actually feel this is yummy), peaches, a cherry pie, and a rootbeer. For some reason tonight I was really craving ice cream with my root beer, but I think requesting a root beer float would be a bit too much even for my creative lunch maker. Oh yeah, I had a strawberry too. I think that's it for tonight. Overall, another wonderful success for my hubby.

You can even learn something from your dinner.

Tonights headliner of dinner was a beef stroganoff with fusilli pasta - yes, you heard it, fusilli pasta. I use to just call this the curly pasta, or the twisty pasta, but apparently it has a real name and it's fusilli. In any case, it was pretty good.

However, the real star was something I've only had once before in my life - strawberries with cream and brown sugar. What a decadent treat. Yummy!!

There was also a spinach salad with crumbled blue cheese (or was it gorgonzola)and tomatoes. Always a good dinner pairing - I could eat spinach salad till I turned green myself. Some other good things to go in spinach salad - dried cranberries, walnuts, chopped pears, goat cheese, however not all of these together in the same spinach salad.

Lastly, I got one of my prized Andes Mints. :)

Thanks again for a fab. u. lous. dinner.

Picnic Dinner

Long time, no blog on the food front. Before I get to tonights dinner, let me say that over the last few weeks I've had some wonderful surprises and dinners both here at work and at home, so for these I say, "Thank you."

Tonights dinner was an interesting sandwich - salad combination. Yummy spinach salad with my ever favorite feta cheese. Sandwich has not been attacked yet, but looks delicious with veggies and everything. I also get my favorite peaches, chocolate chip cookies, and for a nice twist, vinegar and salt potato chips. I think this is the first time I've gotten potato chips in my lunch which in combination with the sandwich is why I've called this a picnic lunch. The rootbeer topped it off.

I missed the Andes mint though.
